COX’S BAZAR: Twenty-five Rohingyas were sent back to Myanmar Thursday as their influx into Teknaf area started again after a break of few days for calamitous rain.

Border Guard Bangladesh members sent them back along with foods by two boats at noon through Teknaf border, said a border security personnel.

Rohingyas failed to arrive in Teknaf amid adverse weather and torrential rain during the last five days. But, 12 Rohingyas intruded into Teknaf as soon as the weather started becoming normal on Thursday morning.

“Of the 25 Rohingyas, 13 were detained in BGB custody one week ago while 12 others entered Teknaf area through the Naaf River,” Lt Col Jahid Hasan, commanding officer of BGB’s 42 battalion in Teknaf, told daily sun.

Border guards have so far sent back over 1000 Rohingyas to their homeland when they sought refuge in Bangladesh after a series of violent sectarian riots between Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims flared up in Rakhaine state of Myanmar, leaving dozens of people dead.
